Eyeing India as one of the world’s fastest growing markets, Xiaomi is planning to invest more and start local manufacturing in the coming year.
The company entered the Indian market in July last year and has sold over a million phones within five months. Its success was due to low price and rich features in the smartphones. It has sold around 60,000 phones a week last year.
Xiaomi is in the evaluation process for finalizing the location of setting up its manufacturing facility and is also in talks with local partners and state governments. Xiaomi might be prepared to invest in India, but the company is looking to put money into start-ups and rolling out service centres.
The company, which primarily sells its phones through online retailer Flipkart.com is also planning to open 100 stores in India this year to help consumers "experience" the company's devices, but will not sell the phones at these stores.
