Shiv Nadar founded HCL Infosystems Ltd. He served as Chief Executive Officer of HCL Technologies Ltd. until October 16, 2007. He serves as the Chief Executive Officer of HCL Enterprise Solutions Inc. Shiv Nadar has been Chief Strategy Officer of HCL Technologies Ltd. since October 2007. He serves as an Industry Adviser of Diamondhead Ventures. He also serves as a Member of the Executive Board of the Indian School of Business. He founded HCL Corporation Private Ltd. and serves as its Chairman.

He also served as its President. In 1976, Nadar initiated HCL as a start-up firm. He serves as the Chairman of HCL Enterprise Solutions Inc. and HCL Technologies Ltd. He serves as the Chairman of the Board of Governors at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He has been a Director of HCL Technologies Ltd. since January 1993. Nadar is Dataquest IT Man of the Year for 1995, quoted by the Time magazine for his vision of a networked future, and placed amongst “the electronic elite” by Geoffrey James in his book The Giant Killers is India's most effective entrepreneur.
