Both in India and globally, HP offers a wide range of solutions across whether it is consumers, small businesses or enterprisers. The focus or the effort we put in to keep our channel strong is very critical and is practised across.
“At HP, we believe in building the right ecosystem. And, we are really the experts on ecosystems in terms of helping solve customer's problems because not only do we take our technology to the customers but we also make sure that we work with our partners,” said Anurag Gupta, Country Manager, Work stations Personal System Group, HP India. The partners would include ISVs and technology providers such as NVIDIA, to make sure that the ecosystem is really designed around the used cases for small and medium business enterprise to make sure that we are delivering customer needs.
In February 2010, industry research firm IDC reported that HP is statistically tied for the top spot in the desktop workstation category in market share in the fourth quarter of 2009. HP's share showed strong growth during the past quarters, culminating in a 43.3% share worldwide, according to the IDC Worldwide Regional Workstation Tracker, February 2010. Workstations have undergone a complete change to emerge as tools for single-person firms to global enterprises to enhance compute power and increase productivity. In the last several years, new generations of highly-advanced Windows- and Linux-based products have transformed workstations into powerful specialized tools at commodity-level prices.
In the desktop workstation category, SMEs and SMBs are the important market drivers. Thus, HP continues to make sure that they are investing in their customers. “Our focus is around three pillars which are innovations, performance and reliability. People are using these for critical applications inside their business. If you think of a hospital which is doing medical imaging or trying to determine whether they do surgery on somebody, they have to have a very accurate set of data and images to be able to make a perfect decision,” share Gupta.
Now coming to networking, HP has some ambitious plans chalked out in this area as well. The company has announced that it is partnering with the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIIT-B), to launch the HP Network University, which will educate IT professionals on the delivery of next-generation networks. The university will be based at the IIIT-B campus in Electronic City, Bangalore and will provide tools, methodologies and labs to teach the latest standards in networking solutions.
The company has also announced that it is going to roll out a complete range of certification programmes for existing and potential partners, as well as students. The courses are expected to be spread over three to six months and will cover basic to advanced levels of networking, network security, consulting, unified communication and converged infrastructure. “There is a fundamental shift in technology and network is undergoing an evolution. However, the biggest challenge our country is facing in this regard is the skills gap. This initiative will be our attempt to address this challenge,” said, Neelam Dhawan, Managing Director, HP India.
The course curriculum is yet to be finalized. Som P. Satsangi, Director - Enterprise Servers, Storage and Networking, HP Enterprise Business, HP India, said, “The courses will be conducted under the upcoming Network University initiative and will be held at IIIT-B. Course attendees will learn how to transform their proprietary environments into open, agile networks and datacenters based on HP converged infrastructure.”
