Network 18 Media & Investments Limited recently organized its Government ICT initiative titled “Governance 2.0” with the Department of Electronic and Information Technology, Government of India in association with CNBC TV18 at The Oberoi, New Delhi on the 7th of February 2013, with National Institute for Smart Government (NISG) as Knowledge Partner to the  Initiative. 

With a participation of over 200 senior Government officials and Industry Leaders, Governance 2.0 was an invigorating confluence of the best brains from both government and the industry that focused on the practical aspects of strategic delivery of the new Government ICT strategy.

This Initiative brought together thought leaders and experts who shared their views and thoughts on the eGovernance era gone by and their vision for the decade ahead. The day long Summit had a blend of thought provoking panel discussions and technical presentations focusing on the technology and business aspects of maximizing efficiency along with presentations of case studies on the evolvement of eGovernance over the years.  

The Inaugural Session of the Summit witnessed Shri R. Chandrashekhar, Chairman TC & Secretary (T), MoCIT; who shared his views on the progress and challenges in the implementation of eGovernance strategies and the road ahead. According to him, though the Indian IT industry is highly competent but the country has not been able to channelize this expertise in governance.  Shri Chandrashekar’s thoughts were evenly complemented by Shri B.K. Gairola, Mission Director, e-Gov, DeitY , Mr. Sanjiv Mital, CEO, NISG and Mr. Siddharth Zarabi, Editor Economic Policy & Delhi Bureau Chief, CNBC TV18 during the Inaugural Session. Mr. Gairola specially highlighted role of DeitY in efficient roll out of egovernance stratergies. He also underlined the technology evolvement in the egovernance space, and stressed on the need of faster technology adoption by the government for efficient citizen service delivery.

The Inaugural Session was followed by a power pact discussion on Setting the Agenda for the decade: Strategies for Today and Vision for tomorrow which aimed to review the success and failures of eGovernance in the last decade and identify the eGovernance Priorities for India in the year 2011 -2020. The discussion brought together India’s eminent eGovernance thought-leaders such as Dr. Prajapati Trivedi, Secretary, (Performance Management), Government of India, Dr. Gulshan Rai, Director General, ICERT, Shri. DP Wahlang, Commissioner & Secretary IT, Govt of Meghalaya and other Industry stalwarts.

The following sessions had several cerebral technical presentations by senior government and industry representatives. One of the key speakers was Ms. Neeta Verma, Deputy Director General and Country Lead, Data Portal of India, NIC, DeitY. She presented a case study on Innovative use of ICT for Democratization of Information & Effective Service Delivery. She mentioned that technology is the key instrument for info-extension and effective mobilization. Other speakers in this session were Mr. Prasenjit Lahiri, General Manager & Business Head - Integrated Service Delivery, Wipro, Mr. Aneesh Dhawan, Regional Head North & East, Vmware Software, Mr. Sanjiv Mehta, Technology Evangelist, HP India, Mr. Maneesh Sharma, Director, SAP India, Mr. NSN Murty, General Manager & Sales Leader, Government, India/ South Asia, IBM India. 

After this session, the focus was on Leveraging Mobile Technology for Effective Service Delivery- M Governance .This panel discussion was moderated by Mr. Nilaya Varma, Executive Director Health & Public Services, Accenture and encompassed the following eminent speakers as key panelist; Dr Rajender Kumar, Joint Secretary (eGov), DeitY, Govt of India, Shri. K. Jayakumar , Joint Secretary, Dept of Scientific & Ind. Research, Govt of India,  Shri. Alok Saxena, Deputy Director General, Department of Posts, Govt of India, Dr. Gautam Bose, Deputy Director General, HRD Informatics Div, NIC and Prof M.P. Gupta, Professor and Chair Information Systems & E-gov, IIT Delhi.

The last session of the Summit showcased power pact presentations by industry leaders that not only enabled discussions around the immediate requirements of the Indian Government, but also facilitated Industry to showcase the deployment of the strategy to achieve value for money in processes that need restructuring. The eminent speaker in this session were Mr. Vinod Kumar, Principal Consultant, NISG, Mr. Sunil Sharma, Vice President Sales & Operations, India & SAARC, Cyberoam, Mr. Maheswaran S, Manager, Engineering Sales, Websense for SAARC Region, Shri. TK Padmanabha, Chief Technology Officer, Wipro Infotech, India & Middle East and Mr. Sulakshan Vajipayajula, ecurity Solution Architect, IBM Security Systems.
