Google’s $15B Vizag AI Data Hub Begins

Google will begin construction of its $15 billion data centre project in Andhra Pradesh on April 28, 2026, marking a major milestone just six months after signing an MoU with the state government. The project represents one of India’s largest foreign direct investments in the technology sector and signals Google’s commitment to expanding its global AI and cloud infrastructure.

The project is positioned as Google’s first major AI hub in India, with an initial capacity of around 1 gigawatt and potential to scale further. Designed to support cloud computing, AI workloads, and global services, it is expected to become one of Asia’s largest data centre clusters.

Three hyperscale campuses will be developed near Visakhapatnam, including sites at Adavivaram, Tarluvada, and Rambilli. Spread across more than 600 acres, the land has already been allocated to Raiden Infotech India Private Limited, Google’s subsidiary overseeing implementation.

Execution is being led by Raiden Infotech in partnership with Adani Infra, which is managing infrastructure through three dedicated special purpose vehicles for each campus. This collaborative model aims to ensure rapid and efficient project delivery.

The project timeline is ambitious, with commissioning targeted for July 2028. The groundbreaking event is expected to involve key leaders, including Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian.

Supporting infrastructure will include submarine cable connectivity, fiber networks, and direct power procurement enabled by “Deemed DISCOM” status. This is critical for meeting the high energy demands of large-scale AI data centres.

Strategically, the project positions Visakhapatnam as an emerging AI and data hub, boosting local economic growth, job creation, and India’s role in the global digital ecosystem. If executed successfully, it could accelerate further investments and strengthen the country’s AI infrastructure landscape.
