In this fast-growing, electronically connected seamless world, IT products are not inherently secure. There is an ever-growing awareness to protect networks, information, data and messages. Fidelity of communication, timely availability of information at destination, source and information authenticity, corruption of information and that of the channel are some of the main challenges. Broadly, these together constitute information security which is the focus of the book.

The book is divided into three parts. Part A is devoted to cryptography forming an ordered exposition to necessary mathematical background material, private and public- key cryptographies, and hashing and signature schemes. Starting with the basic definitions and chapters, the contents of parts B and C delve into the network security and system security.  The chapters examine security features, catalogue security breaches, and introduce security evaluation associated with distributed systems, considering cryptography as an essential technique for such environment.
