Chinese Memory Makers Push DDR5 Speeds to 8000 MT/s, Closing Gap With Global Leaders

Chinese DRAM manufacturers are accelerating the development of high-speed DDR5 memory to meet rising demand from AI, enterprise, and consumer markets. Leading the charge is ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), which has recently debuted DDR5 DRAM chips capable of reaching 8000 MT/s, bringing Chinese memory technology closer to the performance levels of industry leaders Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron.

CXMT has introduced 16Gb and 24Gb DDR5 chips running at up to 8000 MT/s, while other domestic firms are already shipping DDR5 modules. Jiahe Jinwei, for instance, has supplied Powev with Sniker-based DDR5 RDIMM modules offering 64GB capacity at 5600 MT/s, targeting AI and enterprise applications. At the same time, Chinese manufacturers are expanding their presence in the consumer segment with domestically produced DDR5 memory, reducing reliance on foreign supply chains and avoiding issues related to tariffs and shipping constraints.

To support this growth, both CXMT and YMTC are investing heavily in production capacity. These companies are upgrading existing facilities and building new ones under large-scale expansion plans. With CXMT already holding approximately 10% of the global DRAM market, industry observers expect Chinese memory makers to capture additional share as their technology and production volumes continue to improve.
