Apple acquires indoor mapping firm WiFiSlam
It seems acquisition has become the latest buzzword of the IT industry as almost every other company is opting for acquisitions to expand its services portfolio, these days. According to a latest update, Apple has acquired a Silicon Valley start-up, WiFiSlam. If reports are to be believed, the latest acquisition will close for $20 million.
It is noteworthy here that WiFiSlam makes mapping applications for smartphones. WiFiSlam actually develops technology that provides indoor tracking and similar services. The indoor mapping uses a combination of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi network data for generating accurate indoor maps.
It is reportedly said that Apple has confirmed the acquisition. However, it declined to give further details.A spokesperson from Apple said, "Apple acquires smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans."
